With the Lumia 1020, Nokia was pushing the boundaries of mobile photography. Our UX team was tasked with designing an experience that would truly unleash the power of this revolutionary camera phone.

Targeted at professional and amateur photographers, our researchers ran various studies to learn their behavior, pain points, needs, and scenarios. Based on the user insights, we defined 4 key principles to follow through.

One hand use case
To maximize the Lumia 1020's revolutionary 41-megapixel sensor, we designed an intuitive camera experience centered around natural thumb movements. Advanced controls were accessible within a thumb's reach, prioritized by user frequency, and revealed contextually to avoid overwhelming the user. One-handed zoom and reframing capabilities further enhanced the user experience, empowering effortless capture of stunning images.
